Expertise: Combined knowledge for superior results

Looking beyond the drawing: how true expertise uncovers hidden potential

For us, expertise means more than just knowledge. It is the ability to look at a technical drawing and see not only what is, but what could be. It is the art of questioning the status quo in order to create value for our clients that lies hidden deep within the manufacturing process. Two examples from our practice show what we mean by this.

Case 1: The welded ring that did not need to be welded

A client sourced a metal ring that was critical for its application. Manufacturing was complex and expensive: a bar was bent into a circle, the joint was elaborately welded, and then – for safety reasons – the weld seam was tested using costly procedures such as X-ray inspection. It was an established process, proposed by the long-term supplier and never questioned by the client.

However, when analyzing it, our technical sourcing experts did not see a weld seam – they saw a risk and unnecessary costs. With their deep manufacturing know-how, they asked a decisive question: “Why are we welding at all?” We proposed an alternative manufacturing method: seamless rolling. In this process, the ring is formed as a continuous piece from the very beginning.

The result was revolutionary:
  • The expensive welding step was eliminated entirely.
  • The complex and costly testing procedures became unnecessary.
  • The risk of seam failure was eliminated.

Thanks to this single impulse, which was only possible through true expertise, the component became not only significantly cheaper for the client, but also safer.

Case 2: From machined part to intelligent press component

In another project, a client sourced a component with a highly complex contour. It was manufactured as a classic turned and milled part, which made it extremely time- and cost-intensive due to the high machining share. Here too, the attitude was: “We have always done it this way.”

Our specialists closely examined the drawing and the required tolerances. They recognized that the elaborate machining was not necessary to this extent for the function of the part. Their counterproposal: change the manufacturing process to a cold extrusion pressed part.

This change reduced the expensive machining share to a minimum. The client not only saved considerable costs per component, but also benefited from a faster and more efficient manufacturing process.

Our promise: value through depth

These stories are no coincidence. They are the direct result of our philosophy: we rely on specialists who see many solutions and who not only understand procurement, but also speak the language of experts. They dive deep into processes because that is exactly where their passion lies. And they have the courage and knowledge to question established solutions. It is precisely this expertise that leads to the decisive added value that moves our clients forward.
